Dr. George Delivers Generations at Santa Rosa Medical Center
12/27/2022
A much-loved doctor has delivered more than 3,300 babies, including multiple generations, at Santa Rosa Medical Center (SRMC), over several decades. At the end of November, Dr. Sue George, a board-certified OB/GYN physician with Santa Rosa Medical Group (SRMG), delivered a baby boy to a patient she delivered in 2001 - in the same delivery room – LDRP suite 4. Tucker Ray was born to Rebekah Sue on Nov. 28. Three months earlier, Rebekah’s brother and sister-in-law delivered their daughter with Dr. George in the neighboring labor and delivery suite where he had been born 23 years prior.
“While it’s not uncommon for a physician to have patients they have delivered, it’s pretty remarkable to see it happen – twice – in the exact same rooms,” said Amy Peek, MSN, R.N., the director of maternal services. “It shows we continue to provide the personalized experience moms are looking for when delivering their babies.”
Rebekah’s mother, Cathy, shared with SRMC maternity staff that Dr. George delivered two of her children and all five of her grandchildren. She considers her part of their family.
“We just loved Dr. George so much, we named Rebekah Sue after her,” Cathy explained. “Everyone was so good -- the nurses and everything have just been so good every time.”
Dr. George became affiliated with SRMC as an independent provider in June 1998 and delivered seven babies in July 1998. Before opening her private practice, she worked at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD, from 1990 to 1998. She joined Santa Rosa Medical Group as an employed physician in Jan. 2011.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2023, Dr. George will only provide gynecological care to patients and refer all obstetric patients to other providers within the Santa Rosa Medical Group family.
