Santa Rosa Medical Center Administers First COVID-19 Vaccines to Frontline Healthcare Professionals
12/29/2020
MILTON, Fla., - Forty healthcare professionals at Santa Rosa Medical Center received the first doses of COVID-19 vaccine after the hospital accepted its first shipment Monday, Dec. 28.
Each healthcare worker was observed for 15 minutes after their injections, and no side effects were immediately reported.
“We’re currently working to vaccinate all our healthcare professionals who want the vaccine,” said Doug Sills, CEO of Santa Rosa Medical Center. “We understand this is a challenging time for everyone, especially those in healthcare. We hope this vaccine is the start to our return to normalcy.”
At the present time, when vaccine supply is limited, and prioritization has been given to healthcare personnel and residents of nursing homes. As more vaccine doses become available, additional prioritization will be determined and will include individuals 65 and older, workers in essential and critical industries, and people at risk of severe COVID-19 illness due to underlying medical conditions.
While many people with COVID-19 have only a mild illness, others may get a severe illness or may even die. There is no way to know how COVID-19 will affect an individual, even if that individual is not at increased risk of severe complications. Therefore, the ultimate goal is to immunize as many people as possible.
