Santa Rosa Medical Center Expands Heart Health Care To Include Interventional Cardiology Services
8/1/2023
MILTON, Fla. - Santa Rosa Medical Center (SRMC) is expanding cardiac care to provide 24/7 interventional cardiology services for patients experiencing heart attacks and other conditions which reduce blood flow to the heart.
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a non-surgical procedure performed by an interventional cardiologist. During the procedure, a catheter is used to place a stent within narrowed blood vessels to improve circulation and help prevent further damage to the heart muscle. PCI improves blood flow, decreases heart-related chest pain and can increase patients’ overall quality of life.
Board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology, Edward Bisher, M.D., joined Santa Rosa Medical Group (SRMG) in early June to launch SRMC's new program.
“Growth isn’t slowing down in Santa Rosa County, and we want to make sure everyone living and working in this area can get the care they need, when they need it,” said Justin Serrano, chief executive officer at Santa Rosa Medical Center. “We are delighted to welcome Dr. Bisher to our team of physicians and offer more choices for local, convenient access to heart care.”
In March 2022, the American College of Cardiology awarded SRMC with Chest Pain Center Accreditation for its expertise and commitment to treating patients with heart conditions.
Heart disease, also called cardiovascular disease, is a common name for many conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels in people of all ages. Heart disease accounts for approximately 303 out of 100,000 deaths in Santa Rosa County, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Dr. Bisher received medical training at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga. He completed a residency and fellowship in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Cardiology.
