Understanding The Process
Whether you receive a referral from your primary care provider or decide on your own to visit us, here’s a brief look at what your experience will look like at the outpatient wound care facility.
First, patients meet with a health care professional specially trained in wound care. Because every patient and wound is different, your wound specialist will need to evaluate the wound and inquire into your health status. This will help determine the best course of treatment.
Next, your wound care specialist will take the time to listen to your concerns and answer questions about the wound care process. Your provider can give you information about care and prevention, as well. Feel free to bring to your appointment a notepad or a friend or family member who can help you remember what you learn from the specialist.
Diabetic Patients
Diabetic patients who have non-healing wounds of the legs or feet and have not had a successful wound healing experience through traditional wound therapy may be candidates for hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). During this therapy, a special machine saturates the area of the wound with 100% oxygen, stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanisms. To learn more about hyperbaric oxygen therapy, click below
